Event Title: The Trouble with Translation, a workshop with Rhonda Mullins BILINGUAL

Time: 7 – 9 pm

Location: The Guild

Admission: $35.00 (RSVP HERE – limited space)

Featured Artists: Governor General Award winning author Rhonda Mullins

Description:  As a form of writing, translation presents a particular set of challenges that can stretch your brain, keep you up at night and generally plague your waking hours. There is a puzzle-like quality to some of the obstacles translators face in any translation, from the humblest contest rules to soaring works of literature, with all the frustrations and satisfaction that puzzles offer.

This workshop is a catch-all presentation of some of the bigger philosophical questions with translation, my own experience and some of the concrete problems we come up against, using books I have translated as examples. For fun we can also try a couple of translations that present some of the challenges discussed, no doubt discovering in the process that many minds are better than one.

Partners: The PEI Writers’ Guild
